Seashore Engineering was engaged to provide Coastal Engineering services for the iconic Cable Beach (Walmanyjun) Foreshore Upgrade Project in Broome, Western Australia. Solutions were developed alongside significant consultation with traditional owners, the Yawuru people.
The Scope of Works included the construction of approximately 340m of re-profiled and stabilised coastal sand dunes, and 105m of rock revetment. The revetment was constructed using Kimberley quartzite. The reprofiled sand dune required stabilisation with biodegradable erosion protection and vegetation, to provide a natural coastal erosion buffer to foreshore upgrade works.
The designs required investigation into the complex coastal processes that occur along the Kimberly coastline. As well as understanding of heritage areas, environmental processes (such as turtle nesting) and dune stabilisation techniques.
